Schizophrenia

In my movie my character will have schizophrenia, so I have decided to do some research to get a better idea of what it really is.

Schizophrenia is a complex mental health problem, which can manifest itself in a number of ways. Each individual will experience a range of symptoms, not everyone will have them all. Schizophrenia affects thinking, feeling and behaviour.

Symptoms of schizophrenia

Symptoms that represent a change in behaviour, or thoughts are called ‘positive’ symptoms. These include:
  • Delusions - believing something completely even though others find your ideas strange and can't work out how you've come to believe them.
  • Difficulty thinking – finding it hard to concentrate, drifting from one idea to another. Other people may find it hard to understand you.
  • Feeling controlled – feeling as though your thoughts are vanishing, that they‘re not your own, or that your body is being taken over and controlled by someone else.
  • Hallucinations - hearing, smelling, feeling or seeing something that isn’t there. Hearing voices is the most common problem. The voices can seem utterly real. Although they may be pleasant, they are more often rude, critical, abusive or annoying
  • Loss of interest, energy and emotions. You don't bother to get up or go out of the house. You don't get round to routine jobs like washing, tidying, or looking after your clothes. You feel uncomfortable with other people.
  • Some people hear voices without negative symptoms. Others have delusions but few other problems. If someone has only muddled thinking and negative symptoms, the problem may not be recognised for years.

Character Outfits

For my characters I only need two outfits, one for the flashback and one for the running scene as all of my other actresses are just whisperers.

Flash Back Outfit

Black Leggings and Oversized plain white top.

Running Scene Outfit

White Maxi Dress

Character Shots

Main Character: Elle Keens
Plays Schizophrenic Girl.

Location Shots

Story Board.

Narrative

Setting: Sand dunes
Music: Dramatic music
Theme : Running away
Title: Isolated.

Will start with a location shot and then with a head shot of a girl looking straight in to the camera. The girl has been running so she it breathing heavily, and looks scared. The girl has schizophrenia so the way I would like to portray this to the viewer is by having whispers, which symbolises  voicers in her head. The camera will slowly start to zoom into her eye and she will start having flash backs of why she is running. For the flash backs I will be using timelapse to show her moving quickly which adds effect and helps portray her schizophrenia. the camera will zoom back slowly and back into a head shot. The girl is still looking scared and starts to run. Then the music will start and I will get different camera angles of her running, starting with a body shot and ending with her knees falling to the sand. The camera will slowly rise to a head shot of the girls face and she starts to cry.

I have chosen the title Isolated because of the location I have used is quite isolated and because the girl with schizophrenia is isolated from everyone else.

Research Conclusion

In my media film opening research I looked at a range of different genres because I wasn't sure of what genre to do my movie on. After doing my research I have been inspired to create a drama in the style of Sucker Punch. I would like to use some the camera angles they use in Sucker Punch because I think that they add a good effect and my movie could relate to the basic story line of Sucker Punch.
